Mighty Mat correction

My mistake. Florence let me know that the cost of a Mighty Mat 30"x38" mat is $38 including shipping. Let her know if you are interested. Looks like a good product. I'm going to get one to make a couple of 14" trimming bats and have the rest left over for slab work.

More info on Mighty Mat

Florence Wiley received shipping/pricing information on the Mighty Mat (http://www.themightymat.com). The 30"x38" mat costs $30 with $38 shipping. The latter would be less if a group order was placed. Florence also reports a knife of sharp object will not ruin the Mighty Mat as it will a silicone rubber one. She is getting a group order together, so if you are interested, contact her. I calculate that you could get 6- 12" or 4 - 14" bats/wheelcovers from one of these large mats..a pretty good deal.

Brown Bag 4/15/14

The Brown Bag DVD for this Tues. will be a continuation of Janis Wilson Hughes' DVD of making and using clay based  rib tools. Last week she showed how to make them. This week you'll see how she uses them.

As a follow up here's a message from Florence Wiley regarding an interesting tool Janis was using:

"The blue mat is a Mighty Mat from this maker. http://www.themightymat.com/ They are quite affordable on their website.
I checked it out and they don’t take credit cards just checks.  The mat comes in 2 sizes:  small 30” x 15” for $16.00 and large 30” x 38” for $30.00.  They don’t tell you how much shipping is until you place an email order, then they respond with the shipping and handling cost, then you have to confirm the order.  The mat is a clean lithograph mat used by the printing industry.  I’ll let you know what I learn about the shipping costs."
I also was intrigued by "the blue mat" and tried to find it online. I assumed it was some kind of silicon rubber and found another possibility on Amazon, a silicon rubber pastry mat.
I cut it down to size, wet it and put it on a bat to hold for trimming. Works really well.
Check it out and look forward to Florence's findings. Looks like a very inexpensive way to without a Giffen Grip.
