As a follow up here's a message from Florence Wiley regarding an interesting tool Janis was using:
"The blue mat is a Mighty Mat from this maker. http://www.themightymat.com/ They are quite affordable on their website.
I
checked it out and they don’t take credit cards just checks. The mat
comes in 2 sizes: small 30” x 15” for $16.00 and large 30” x 38” for
$30.00. They don’t tell you how much shipping is until you place an
email order, then they respond with the shipping and handling cost, then
you have to confirm the order. The mat is a clean lithograph mat used
by the printing industry. I’ll let you know what I learn about the
shipping costs."
I also was intrigued by
"the blue mat" and tried to find it online. I assumed it was some kind
of silicon rubber and found another possibility on Amazon, a silicon rubber pastry mat.
I cut it down to size, wet it and put it on a bat to hold for trimming. Works really well.
Check it out and look forward to Florence's findings. Looks like a very inexpensive way to without a Giffen Grip.
