Brown Bag, 2/18/14 featuring Ben Carter DVD

Here's a description of the Ben Carter DVD which we'll start tomorrow (courtesy of Florence Wiley),

Throwing, Handbuilding and Slip Decorating

In this edition of the Ceramic Arts Daily Presents video series, Ben Carter shares his methods for integrating surface design with altered wheel-thrown and handbuilt pottery. Referencing pillows, tufted furniture, and quilts, Carter imbues his pots with softness in a variety of ways—from altering freshly thrown pots to create volume, to stretching soft clay into foam slump molds. Using this overfilled aesthetic as a metaphor for the comfort of southern hospitality, he complements the soft forms with slip and underglaze decoration using sgraffito, slip trailing, and painting techniques.

Looks like a good one, join us!

Wes Stack will present a workshop on using  extruders for creating functional and decorative ceramic pieces. Information and techniques for choosing appropriate extruders and clay and dies, decorating extruded pieces and creating your own dies will be presented. "Hands on" will be emphasized as participants will extrude and finish pieces, then decorate them with different  techniques. Please bring your regular clay tools and decorating/texturing tools to use, as well as your lunch.

Registration can be done in person at the RAL Gallery or online on the RAL website ( http://reg130.imperisoft.com/Rehoboth/Search/Registration.aspx ). Scroll down to choose the extruder workshop. Due to the hands on nature of the workshop, the maximum number of registrations is 10.
